Happy Monday!

What am I bragging this Monday about....no new charms or birdhouses. My boys are going back to school! Not just school, now they are both in High school. I am nervous, they are not. It's a big deal for me, so that's what I am bragging about.

Quote of the day

" Even as kids reach adolescence, they need more than ever for us to watch over them. Adolescence is not about letting go. It's about hanging on during a very bumpy ride."
Ron Taffel
Have a good day boys. Ciao La Mamma

Don't know why but I kept this photo for years...last night over a wonderful dinner with friends I got the photo out. That's what is all about, friends and good food.
I am planning to have a similar platter ready for the ladies September 26th for the Soldering Class, what do you think?
Have a great weekend

Casa dolce Casa

Just found this photo of the front of my house taken probably Spring 2008. Purple is not one of my favorite colors, but I just love "Morning Glories",unfortunately we had to cut them down, it requires to much water! It's my screen saver now. I am glad a took this photo and I hope we get enough rain this year to plant something as beautiful as the "Morning Glories".

"White Wednesday"
"Mercoledi Bianco"

Love this book
by Stephanie Hoppen

Heather suggested this book in one of her post, I had to have it! And it's coming handy today....

and here are my whites for the week

We have a small window in our bedroom=stanza da letto
I layered my Nonna's lace curtain on top of a cream curtain

This is a close peek of one of my pillow case cover,in the older days in Sicilia they would covered their pillows with a pillow cover during the day so it would not collect dust.

A close look of one of my sheets, now I use it for the markets to cover the display tables. Why keep it in a closet.

We have a sliding door in the bedroom and this curtain covers it. My Mamma gave it to me on one of my trips back to Sicilia. The work put in to it....amazing=straordinario

closer look of the bedroom's curtain
two birds and a vase with flowers

Another pillowcase cover

"Buon Riposo" = "Good Rest"
My Papa' used to say Buon Riposo before taking his nap in the afternoon. I found this sheet at Granny's Attic in Old Town Temecula last week. I had to have it.....
and of course my Apron=Grembiule , it has my Nonna's pillow case trim.

Enjoy more White Wednesday

" White Wednesday"

White eggs, organic .

Frittata di Patate
Serves 4-6
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 medium potato, peeled, quartered length wise and cross cut into 1/4- inch slice
8 eggs
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
3/4 cup grated Pecorino or Parmiggiano cheese
Salt and black pepper
TO PREPARE
- Preheat oven to 350 F
- In a large ( 12 inch) skillet, heat the olive oil = olio d'oliva over medium high heat. Add the sliced potatoes and saute for 5 minutes or until tender. Remove with a slotted spoon to a paper lined plate to drain. Season lightly with salt.
-There should be enough oil left in the skillet from frying the potatoes, if not add a little bit more olio.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the 8 eggs and add the remaining ingredients. Add the potatoes in the egg mix and blend.
- Pour the mix back into skillet. Place skillet over low heat. Cook until the bottom has set, about 15 minutes. Place skillet in preheated oven or under a broiler until la frittata is firm to the touch. Do not overcook or the frittata will be dry.
Buon Appetito!

One of the traditions that I brought back from Sicily is Frittata, we serve for dinner with a tomatoes, cucumbers and onion salad. Enjoy Ciao Rita

White Wednesday

White Wednesday
Bianco = White

This is my first " White Wednesday" and happy to be part of it, especially because seems like everything I build, sew and paint is BIANCO.
You probably know, there are so many shades of white. This nightstand is Opal Cream and I stress it lightly with fine sandpaper.
Eggshell Opal White and Opal Cream are my favorites. I choose eggshell because is not matte or glossy, gives the piece an antique look too, and you can wipe off finger prints easily.
For the Birdhouses I always spray some matte finish varnish after white.
The jewelry display frame was painted Opal White and brushed with Golden Oak stain and wiped off right away just to leave the stain into the carvings.
Anita from "tatteredgoods" made me this aprons. The story goes, few months ago I was doing my first Farmer's Market, no place to leave cell phone, keys and change. I made one with painter cloth and nonna's lace. Not to shabby but it works, I gave the idea to Anita and she made me 4 to sell, I love them all. They are one of a kind.
Please visit "Fadedcharm cottage" and check out all the participant to "White Wednesday".
